Motorola CPS regions

After some time struggling with GP328 programming software, here some tips regarding CPS regions and models.

Region Codes

LA = Latin America
FD = Federal
MD = EMEA MDC (Europe, Middle East, Africa)
AA = North America
AZ = Asia
JP = Japan

I have been working with 3 different CPS versions:

CPS-R03.11.16 (5 tone signalling)
to program European GP360, GP340, GP320 and GM360

CPS-R06.12.05 (MDC1200 and Quick Call II signalling)
to program most Asian GP328, GP338, etc

CPS-R03.01.00-Japan
to program GP-338 from Japan

If you have the right CPS and still are getting the region error, do this:
Go to the registry, open up HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Motorola -> ProRadio -> FSK  and edit the string called “SerializedString” and replace it’s data with @%&MAHUS (was UHM@) then start up CPS. This little registry hack doozy makes your CPS software “region free” meaning it’ll program any compatible radio, regardless of country of origin. It works fine for R06.

Below are some different instructions on how to change the region. Got it from here. I never tested. Try at your own risk.

HOW TO CHANGE REGIONAL ID

Step 1
Download the software

Download URL: http://downloads.motorola-radio-support.co.uk/index.php?dir=Archive/Motorola-Software/&file=US%20Waris%20Codeplug%20Tool.zip

Step 2

Unzip the folder once downloaded and you will have the below contents

Step 3

Double click the US Waris Codeplug Tool Icon

Step 4

Connect your radio to the PC and read the radio by clicking Radio Info, this is just a test to make sure the raido is connected ok

now select from the Program menu  "Change Regional ID"
